Just Detailed: BMW Boxercup R1100S
Posted by macdude on May 8th, 2008 filed in Personal, Photography, DetailingIt’s finally completed! Took us over 2 weeks to detail this limited-edition collectors Sportsbike as the client specified the disassembly of the body panels for some of the most thorough detailing we’ve ever done on a two-wheeler. *hehe* The R1100S is now astonishingly gorgeous with all the metal bits buffed to the highest possible shine and the paintwork perfected to our usual standards.
I bumped into Ted the other day at the Sony A350 media launch and shared with him about this project and being a biker enthusiast he offered to join in on the photo-shoot. So last night, we staged our combined lighting strobes for a total of seven flashguns with a combination of bare bulbs, white brollies, gobos and a snoot. We didn’t have enough Pocket Wizards to go around so I dug out my Poverty Wizards and a couple of optical slaves. We had loads of fun engineering the lighting setups and worked our way in stages to shape and control the mount of light that we needed. Ted used a tripod mount and shot some frames to be combined and merged in Photoshop later. I went for a more traditional approach, fired a couple of shots and picked the best! *hehe* After some touch-ups, adjustments, dodge and burns in CS3, we finally have a pretty cool photo… I’m sure Captain Nik must be delighted to see his Motorrad staged with studio-esque lighting.
The Lighting Setup
Strobist Info: Seven strobes placed around subject for wraparound lighting including two white brollies, gobo and a snoot. Triggered wirelessly via combination of Poverty Wizards and optical slaves.
Enjoy!
